What is the actual purpose of clothes? To keep us covered? To keep us warm? If yes, then why would people actually spend hundred thousands of rupiah, or even millions just for a piece of clothing? The fashion industry these days are also one of the most majestic industry. If clothes are just a piece of article, then why would the said above happen?

Firstly, what we wear and how we wear our style are the first thing that people will notice about us. When we are walking down the street, we won’t know other people’s personality, what families they come from etc. But our brain encode the first thing that they can see, which are our physical appearance that includes our fashion style, and we process that information based on our preferences and experiences, and lastly, those judgment will effect our post decision making process. Therefor, many people use fashion as a form to express themselves. Quoting the chief executive officer of a famous handbag brand Prada, Miuccia Prada, “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language”.

But not just as a way to impress, we also dress to fulfil our own needs to express ourselves. Every pattern, every cut, every layer, every motive are the combination of our expressions. There are reasons why our minds subconsciously picks the clothes that we wear. Every clothes are a representative of every individual story, and everyone has a different story, different experiences and different preferences. Therefor, we must appreciate everyone’s style and fashion.

"What’s my style is not your style, and I don’t see how you can define it. It’s something that expresses who you are in your own way.” —Iris Apfel, A fashion icon
